GERTIE UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED

Gorgeous Gertie’s story reinforces the necessity for and wisdom of researching the characteristics and exercise/stimulation needs of dog breeds before welcoming a pup or dog into your life.

When I first met Gertie (a 1-year-old Blue Heeler x Koolie), the most worrying aspect was the fact that the young woman who was surrendering her was literally covered from head to foot in little bruises where Gertie had been nipping her out of sheer boredom and frustration, due to a lack of training, mental and physical stimulation.

My concerns about Gertie’s behaviours completely evaporated once she arrived at our shelter. After initial introductions with the other dogs, she was off and racing. Her exaltation at having dogs to mingle, play and run with was an absolute joy to observe. We very quickly got to know what a beautiful sweet-natured girl she is and her human-nipping days were undeniably a thing of the past. Her needs were being met.

Serendipitously, Josh had met and fallen for Gertie on a previous visit to the Northern Rivers. He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw our adoption post. He jumped on a plane, adopted Gertie and with his brother and his rescue Blue Heeler, drove Gertie back to Wollongong and the family.

Since then it’s been all smooth sailing. Gertie loves the family, is swiftly learning commands and good manners, has lots of doggie playmates, gets tons of off-leash beach time and loves her bush adventures.

We are overjoyed to see you looking so happy Gertie 😍

Introducing gorgeous ‘Gertie’ a 1-year-old desexed female Blue Heeler x Koolie.

Gertie is a small-medium sized girl with a lovely and very affectionate temperament. She is amazing with other dogs and will submit readily to another overbearing or reactive dog.

She is typical of her breeds and will need strong but loving leadership and plenty of physical and mental exercise and stimulation. She is very bright and will do well with further training and boundaries. Because she is currently a bit nippy, we would only recommend her for older children.

Gertie has no experience with cats or chickens but is currently getting used to cows at our shelter. She is frightened of getting in vehicles, but once in, she travels really well. She is also house-trained and does NOT suffer from separation anxiety.

If you have experience with working breeds and are looking for a loyal, friendly, fun-loving companion or family dog please contact Shell on 0458461935.
