DUSTY UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED

It’s truly amazing what a change of pack can do for a girl !!

16-month-old Kelpie x ‘Dusty’ had been well loved, had received extensive training since she was a pup and is a very smart girl. However, she remained defiant, disruptive and disobedient with her previous companion. So much so, that her trainer had suggested she may need to be muzzled in public situations.

After spending some time with Dusty, I could sense she had the potential for outstanding and charming behaviour 😇

With a lifetime of working dog experience, Nick, Michelle, Ewan and their gorgeous older dog ‘Lizzie’ decided to give Dusty a trial. She settled in nicely instantaneously, has even spent time on holidays with the wider family and all their dogs, and seems to have worn a grin from ear to ear ever since she joined her new pack 😺

Michelle writes “Dusty is a beautiful girl and she has settled in so well. She’s learning a lot and Lizzie 🐶 has ensured she knows her place in the pecking order. We love her and we believe she loves us. She is definitely staying”.

What a good girl Dusty!! SO happy 😍🐚

15-month-old desexed female Kelpie x ‘Dusty’ is available for adoption.

At home, Dusty is loving, affectionate and happy left on her own. She knows commands well but can be defiant and head-strong. She loves off-leash time at the beach; running, playing fetch and swimming.

Dusty has undergone some intensive training and behavior modification recently due to her occasional and unpredictable reactivity towards some dogs and some humans. This can result in jumping up, charging, lunging, snapping, resource guarding and what can look like dominance. Although she has been well loved and cared for, Dusty initially presents as an apprehensive, shy and untrusting dog.

Strangely, and although this profile sounds discouraging, when Angeji the Basenji and I met Dusty at the beach, she was a delight and she behaved extremely well. Once she had warmed to us, we even placed her in some very challenging/triggering situations and her behaviour was exemplary.

Dusty would love farm life, would make an excellent tradie’s dog or a woman’s companion dog. Due to her unpredictable behaviours, we would not recommend her for young children.
