BINDI UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED

Beautiful ‘Bindi’ the Maremma Sheepdog came to us at 6-months of age as an alleged failed working guardian dog.

We at once recognised her fondness for human interaction and affection and felt privileged that we could enjoy and give her an abundance of that.

Bindi stayed with us for 4-months during which time she stole all of our hearts. Her adopters were going to have to be very special, with an ideal situation for us to part with her…

Bindi greeted Maralyn and Greg like they were long lost friends – rushing up, leaning in, gazing up with adoration – a match made in heaven 💞

Princess Bindi now thrives on her rural fully dog fenced property where she’s best friends with Darwin the dog, tolerates the terrorist cat, is gentle with the chickens and admires the horses. Her one issue was an unfathomable fear of stairs! Maralyn and Greg have been forced to carry her up and down for 2 months! They even laid the entire staircase with artificial grass to help. With patience, treats and gentle encouragement Bindi finally ascended the entire staircase last Saturday! 👏🎉

We love you Bindi and we’re so happy you’re receiving the princess treatment that you deserve/demand 😆💎💘

6-month-old female Maremma Sheepdog ‘Bindi’ is gorgeous, gentle and serene!!

She has been surrendered for rehoming because she demonstrated little traditional inclination for livestock guardianship – she preferred to play with her goat charges and was prone to wandering off in search of fun, then when tethered, howled, cried and was desperate for human engagement.

Simply put, Bindi’s behaviour is very atypical for a Maremma. She craves human company, love and affection, but she will also be loyal, alert, intelligent and an independent thinker.

She has settled in beautifully with the other dogs at our open-air shelter and her behaviour on a beach walk with Furry Dogmother and her pack was exemplary. She was calm, inquisitive, walked well on-leash and was keen to introduce herself to all the humans. She is also good with children, cats and chickens.

Bindi is a big adorable sook. Anything new initially terrifies her. She cried and howled when she first invited inside, came upon a staircase, went to the vets, had to jump in & out of a vehicle. We have therefore been introducing her to lots of different things and situations and she is learning quickly.

We feel she is best suited to a fenced rural property where she will make an excellent inside dog and family guardian. Alternatively, a suburban home where she would enjoy lots of company and outings, might also suit. (Bindi has a deep loud bark which could become problematic if she was left unattended).

She will need further training, continuing socialisation and regular grooming.
