INOSUKE now ANOUSHKA UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED

When 10-month-old Maremma Sheepdog ‘Anoushka’ arrived into our care she was an extremely shy girl who had been living a very sheltered and anomalous life for such an ancient breed of guardian dog.

Very quickly, she gained confidence and soon loved running with the pack at our open-air shelter.

Rob & Uli, who have a companion male and female Maremma on their beautiful property, were super interested in offering Anoushka a home. However, they had received some outlandish advice from an online LGD community stating that two female Maremma’s would NEVER accept one another and if their other female Maremma came into heat before her neuter appointment, she would likely attack Anoushka.

From experience, we had a difference of opinion, and felt that with apt introductions and careful integration into the pecking order, Anoushka could be very happy joining their Maremma pack.

Excited, we drove Anoushka out for introductions……  and she never left 🎉

The two females were indeed a bit frisky with each other for the first few days, but soon sorted out their places in the scheme of things. Not only did the family completely fall for Anoushka’s charms but so did the Maremma’s. The two girls absolutely adore each other and when Luna did come on heat; their friendship didn’t alter at all.

We are beyond thrilled to see Anoushka’s constant smile and joyous antics running and playing with her adorable new Maremma pack  🙏😄💛 and of course, enjoying the comforts of life with Rob, Uli and the boys.

Be still my beating heart!! 💓💓

Big, fluffy, elegant, dignified, gorgeous 9-month-old desexed female Maremma ‘Eno’ has joined our other majestic Maremma ‘Bindi’ and several other doggo’s at our open-air shelter.

Eno had lived a rather sheltered and anomalous life prior to her surrender, but after two weeks of socialising, playing, romping and living outside with our other dogs she is coming out of her shell and her beautiful personality is beginning to burgeon.

Eno is absolutely stunning and regal. She is quite demure, but friendly, affectionate, loves other dogs, is good with cats and she’s coolly protective of her domain.

We cannot be certain that she possesses the breed’s innate guardianship qualities as she has never had the opportunity to demonstrate her skills.

Ideally, Eno would suit a rural or semi-rural dog-fenced property where she could adapt to protecting a hobby-farms small flock and/or settling as the families inside/outside beloved pet and guard dog.

Maremma’s are an ancient breed with the ability for independent thinking. Any training needs to be gentle, consistent and totally positive.
