JOHNNY UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED
We are thrilled to announce that gorgeous 4-year-old German Shepherd x Border Collie ‘Johnny’, who spent 5 months at our open-air shelter, has been formally adopted by Luella.
Johnny settled in immediately and beautifully with 8yo Border Collie ‘Nicky’ and Luella on her 7-acre horse farm in Tenterfield.
We were somewhat concerned for Johnny when he first arrived at the shelter, as he displayed such aloofness with humans and had quite obviously never experienced a close bond with his previous family, where he spent much of his time escaping and creating his own stimulating but perilous adventures. Over several months, and with a great deal of input from John our shelter-caretaker, Johnny began to loosen up, make eye contact and hang out comfortably with workers and visitors.
We sensed that Johnny would make an excellent companion and guardian for the right person/family and situation.
He absolutely loves life on the farm, delights in his games and play with doggy-friend Nicky and adores and shadows Luella, who in turn spoils him, has given him a luxury bed inside and “loves him to pieces!”

Meet Johnny a 3-year-old desexed male German Shepherd x Border Collie (also referred to as a Shollie).
A jewel in the crown, Johnny was the only oddball in his litter of German Shepherd‘s. It is believed that the neighbours audacious Border Collie snuck in one day and had fun with Johnny’s mother.
Johnny is a very intelligent boy and is fantastic with young children. He’s also great with other dogs and very playful. He has never been around cats, chickens or farm animals.
He will need further training (especially recall, down, leash and house training). He has been surrendered for rehoming because his current family are unable to meet his exercise and mental stimulation needs; hence Johnny escapes his property in search of fun and that much needed stimulus.
Johnny has a beautiful nature and will make someone, or a family, a loyal, loving and protective guardian.
He will be moving to our open-air shelter on 2/12/23 and will then be available for meet-ups. Please contact Shell on 0458461935.
