Update 29 September 2017 – Xena is now on trial!

Xena is a young sharpei cross who was rescued into a new home full of promise, but one of the existing dogs in this home took an immediate dislike and attacked her. She sustained numerous deep superficial wounds to both front legs and a broken foot, leading to emergency orthopaedic surgery followed by an amputation of one of her front legs. Despite the pain and uncertainty of her situation, Xena has shown strength, resilience and her ever-happy personality throughout all of this difficult experience. She has an infectious love for everyone and has not let any of these negative experiences dampen her joy for life. She still loves meeting and playing with new dogs, and absolutely has to say hello and get lots of pats from every person she sees! Knowing that his home situation was not suitable for her, the rescuer surrendered Xena to CAWI the Byron Dog Rescue to give her another chance at finding a forever home. Special thanks to the rescuer and Mullumbimby Vet Clinic who have kindly donated thousands of dollars towards her surgeries.

Xena is now ready to find her forever home! After a speedy recovery, she is a healed, healthy and happy dog. She is a true “3 legs and a spare” kind of dog, with a playful nature and heart full of cuddles. She has been in foster care living successfully with two fairly submissive and non-reactive dogs. She would likely be best as the only dog in the house as she can be a little possessive of her food and toys, but may be ok with another submissive, non-reactive dog. She does love to have a good romp around (3 legs does not slow her down!) so she would like to have frequent visits to the beach or park to socialise and play with other dogs.
