MARMITE (now Buddy) UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED

1-year-old Golden Retriever x Kelpie ‘Marmite’ joined a family as a pup, but the families much older dog was not at all impressed. The two dogs began a love/hate relationship which soon deteriorated into fighting. Young Marmite developed resource-guarding with his older companion and their relationship simply deteriorated more and more.

Marmite’s behaviour worsened, becoming very home and children protective. He was unable to correctly discern his role in the family, hence fear and anxiety responses became his norm. Heartbreakingly, the family decided in order to protect their older dog, Marmite would need to find a new home.

Marmite’s resource guarding had become so severe, we decided he would need to find a situation where he was the only dog and his new people would need the skill to rehabilitate him.

Enter young couple, Vivien and Zach. With a lifetime of family dog experience, Vivien saw very handsome-boy Marmite’s profile and was super keen to meet him. The workplace meet-up was a huge success and Marmite exceeded all our expectations by being charming, relaxed and friendly, even with their parents older German Shepherd.

Marmite now Buddy, settled into his new home like a charm. He goes to work with Vivien & Zach every day and is gradually learning to chill out around lots of different people (and dogs) at his nursery workplace. Buddy has been such an exceptionally good boy; he even got to free-range without incident at the nursery from day 1.

Vivien writes: “we’re totally in love ❤“

12-month-old desexed male Labrador Retriever x Kelpie ‘Marmite’ is looking for a new home.

Charming, exuberant, playful, loving; Marmite adores children, the beach, playing fetch and running with other dogs (Marmite’s behaviour at Doggy Day-care is exemplary). He is also well socialised with the family cat.

Unfortunately, Marmite and the senior dog he lives with just don’t get on. Marmite has learnt some unsettling resource guarding behaviours at home with other dogs, and although his family have tried hard to make the relationship with their older dog and Marmite succeed, things are not improving.

Marmite knows and responds well to basic commands, walks well on-leash, but will need ongoing training, socialisation and plenty of exercise.

Marmite would suit an active young family who have skills to manage his resource guarding. Please contact Shell on 0458461935.
