LOKI UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED

Sweet little boy ‘Loki’ certainly lived up to his namesake – God of Mischief – when he arrived into our care. Although we all adored him, he had a penchant for humping nonstop; other dogs, carers legs and children’s fluffy toys (his desex thankfully helped this issue). He also developed an obsession with chasing Bush Turkeys and continued with his escapism tactics.

Loki was up to his third foster-carer when he met Michelle and her son Keegan.

A strong, fit and healthy Michelle had very recently been diagnosed with Leukaemia so Keegan had suggested they fulfil one of Michelle’s long desires – to welcome a companion dog into their home.

A usually pretty aloof Loki saw Michelle, ran straight to her, planted himself on her feet and gazed lovingly up into her face. Keegan stated with certainty “Loki is your dog Mum”.

Two days later I delivered Loki to his new home and while Michelle was signing his adoption paperwork she asked with some shock; “how did you know my birth date!!?” With a sudden onset of tears, I said “that’s actually Loki’s birth date. OMG, that’s unbelievable, you really were meant to find each other and the cherry on top, you share the same birthday!” 😵🎉💝

Loki accompanies Michelle on her daily runs and has settled into their home with absolutely ZERO issues!!

Michelle and Keegan “love him to bits” and think he is the “most incredible fantastic happy little man” 💖💖

Absolute sweetheart ‘Loki’ is a 2½-year-old desexed male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Dachshund.

Although named after the Scandinavian God of Mischief, Loki has an adorable sweet gentle temperament. He is great with children, other dogs and cats.

Loki got himself into trouble through no fault of his own – he simply missed out on proper exercise, socialisation and stimulation – resulting in a never-ending urge to escape his property.

He has been loving his gentle on-leash walks in foster-care and will bring much love and affection to the right family. He is well on the way to being house-trained.

❗❗ When Loki was only 4-months of age, he underwent major osteotomies due to limb deformities in both forelegs. After months of recovery time, Loki’s surgery was a huge success and after a recent vet check, it was concluded that he has no current issues with his front legs and is in great shape.

❗However, Loki will inevitably suffer arthritis in his front legs and will require a lifetime of supplements to protect and support his joints. We have placed him on a green-lipped-muscle-based supplement and will require whoever adopts him to continue with this treatment (and possible Cartrophen injections later in life). In addition, to protect Loki’s little Dachshund legs, he should only receive gentle exercise, not too many hills or soft-sand walks and his current lean weight needs to be maintained. Please don’t apply if you have lots of stairs.

Loki is still recovering from his castration but will be available for adoption in a weeks’ time. Please send Shell a message on 0458461935 and provide your name, location, details about your home and family, fenced yard?, and the lifestyle you will provide Loki with.
