NELSON UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED !!!  🎉🎈🎉

CAWI first rescued Boxer x Bull Arab puppy ‘Nelson’ over 6-years ago from Casino Pound. He had obviously endured a rotten beginning in life; he was covered in cigarette burns and had quite possibly been hit or kicked in the head inducing some mild brain damage; poor Nelson always seemed a little away with the fairies.

He was nevertheless a gorgeous soft natured boy, gentle with children and happy to loll about in the sunshine.

Due to no fault of his own, Nelson has bounced from owner back to CAWI twice now. Most recently, we placed him back into foster-care and we also had a nasty tumour on his eye removed successfully by Northcoast Vets.

He thoroughly loved his 5-months with foster-carers extraordinaire, Val & Annette; enjoying lots of affection, daily beach walks and learning some boundaries around food.

3-weeks ago we introduced Nelson to retired couple Christine & Max; I can only describe the meet-up as goose-bump inducing. Normally quite aloof with strangers, Nelson spotted Chris & Max approaching the property… he roused himself from sunbathing on the veranda and exuberantly bounded to the gate to greet them.

Once inside, Nelson stood leaning against Chris & Max looking up at them with such affection, I was impelled to shed a tear or two. Joyfully, the feeling was completely mutual and Chris & Max had no reservations about adopting Nelson 2 days later and offering him a loving home on their 10-acre hinterland property where Nelson enjoys many adventuresome walks and even gets to swim in his very own dam. He also goes everywhere with Chris & Max and loves his car rides.

Chris & Max have “fallen in love” with Nelson, find his nature gorgeous, yet stubborn, but utterly loveable.

Thank you both!! We are simply overjoyed that Nelson has found his final devoted forever home – ENJOY Nelson – you big sweetheart!  💘

6-year-old desexed male Bull Arab x Boxer ‘Nelson’ is yet again looking for a new home.

BDR originally rescued him from Casino Pound back in 2014. He was successfully adopted for 3-years by a couple who absolutely adored him, but they moved abroad and Nelson came back to us. Adopted again 2½-years ago by a single mum with children, Nelson is now available for adoption due to changes and demands in his current owners’ life.

Nelson is a big, absolutely loveable and easy-going boy. He does love a good walk or romp at the beach (can get a bit over-excited and bombastic around ball play) and he adores swimming.

He has a sweet goofy demeanour and is gentle with other dogs and children. He’s more than happy to loll about at home either in the garden or inside.

🚩On occasions, and out of the blue, Nelson can become food aggressive. (We would recommend he is fed alone, separated from other animals and children – then remove his food bowl until he is fed next. If he is inside while the family is eating, best to have him restrained during meal-times).

❗👍 Nelson has suffered with a long-term eye irritation which some months ago developed into a bright red mass on his left eye. We had Lauren from Northcoast Vets surgically remove the entire tumour on Tuesday and the lab results confirmed it was a benign haemangioma. Although not painful, the long-term irritation this would have caused Nelson, may have contributed to his change in behaviour – the sudden and unexplained food aggression.

Nelson is otherwise an adorable, playful dog who will thrive in the right situation. Please phone Shell on 0458461935 if you feel you could provide him with a stable and loving forever home.
