RIP Dekoda Daisy

Sadly, nearly 7-year-old, 3-legged darling Dekoda, Daisy, Baby Seal lost her battle with advanced liver cirrhosis due to a copper-toxicity congenital disorder we had diagnosed in mid-September.

Daisy was peacefully euthanised on Thursday 18th November in the company of her fabulous and adoring foster-carers, Joanna & Andrew.

Unfortunately, her condition was too advanced and although she initially responded well to an amazing copper-free diet, supplements to aid her liver function and even acupuncture sessions, she suddenly declined and in consultation with one of her treating vets, the decision was made to end any suffering.

For 9-months in our care, Daisy had the best time of her life!

She utterly adored her foster-family and revelled in Joanna’s nutritional meals, daily beach outings with big-boy ‘Poncho’, long adventurous walks in her doggie-stroller and super fun car-rides.

In remembrance, Joanna has put together this gorgeous video. Rest well Daisy, we love you forever 💘

Meet our latest 3-legged rescue girl – Dekoda – an absolute darling among darlings!  💓💓

Dekoda is a 6-year-old desexed female Staffy x Bull Terrier x Boxer.

She lost her front-right-leg after being run over in 2016. She hasn’t let her disability hold her back though, and unfortunately continued to be an expert escapologist – the ultimate reason for her surrender (by her loving but very ill & disabled owner).

Dekoda has lived her entire life in Lismore, so now in foster-care, she is utterly enjoying beach-time and is a joy to witness. She is extremely agile, playful, friendly and jubilant.

Her remaining front-leg is of course compromised and has suffered long-term mishaps, particularly from climbing stairs. We are now treating chronic wounds which are already healing well. We have also introduced a green-lipped-muscle/chondroitin supplement to her diet, in order to support the joint in her front-left-leg.

She has been vaccinated and undergone a thorough health-check with an excellent prognosis. We have also flushed and cleaned her ears and treated her for a massive flea infestation. No wonder she is now all smiles and exhibiting pure elation.

Dekoda is gentle, polite, easy-going, very affectionate and extremely lovable. She adores the company of other dogs and would suit a home with at least one other dog or possibly someone who can be a constant loving companion.

❗Although she can play and frolic in the waves forever, she will need her exercise to be monitored and moderated to support her disability.

We are interested to hear from people who can, and will, continue with joint-supplement treatments for the remainder of Dekoda’s life and who live in as much as possible, stair-less circumstances. Please phone Shell on 0458461935.
