🎉🎈☀HARVEY UPDATE – SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED !!!!!!! ☀🎈🎉

Harvey, Harvey, Harvey. What a journey we’ve all been on with you!

Rescued from the pound over 6-months ago, Harvey arrived into BDR’s care with an unknown illness. After a myriad of vet examinations, blood tests & X-rays which established Harvey as fit & healthy, he would return to his foster-carers and continue to vomit & regurgitate his way through life, initiating more & more weight loss. In desperation, we sent him for an endoscopy which discovered an inoperable diverticulum in his oesophagus.

Hallelujah! At least we now knew what we were dealing with.

PHENOMENAL THANKS must go to all Harvey’s foster-carers, but especially Brigitte and then Brigit, who persevered with trial & error special diets and feeding regimes, managing to restore Harvey’s weight and alleviate his constant regurgitating. They also put tons of effort into training Harvey who was at times an insufferable wild child.

At the point where we wondered if sweet Harvey would ever find a home of his own, Sally & partner Gage rang one Sunday morninglooking to adopt a small dog. All I could hear in Sally’s voice was a gigantic & warm heart… I felt utterly compelled to tell her about tall, elegant, large Harvey. Sally said “oh poor Harvey! I’d like to meet him”…

Brigit the foster-carer and I dropped everything and we roared over to Mullumbimby that same day meeting at Sally & Gages home. Harvey also met mum Barbara & her ex-CAWI dog Mia. The two dogs immediately bonded, joyfully playing & playing.

That was 6-weeks ago, and Harvey never left. Sally & Gage embraced Harvey into their lives, researching his medical condition and introducing even more nutritional foods and probiotics into his diet.

They fell more and more for Harvey’s charms and quirky traits and last week decided to formally adopt him!! Happy happy days!! Harvey has found his mob!

So thrilled for Harvey; Byron Dog Rescue has committed to ongoing support for Sally & Gage by covering any future vet bills which relate to his diverticulum.

Crack open the champagne!!  🍸🍻😀

HARVEY ADOPTION

Handsome happy ‘Harvey’ is a de-sexed male 20-month-old Kelpie x Cattle x Hound who is looking for a kind, caring forever home.

Harvey is beyond gorgeous. He’s charming, handsome, elegant, playful, loving and excellent with kids and other dogs. He’s a quick learner, warmly affectionate and performs commands well.

Harvey is tall and slender, has tonnes of energy and will love either beach or rural life on a fenced property to avoid his wandering ways. Best suited to a home with a reasonably sized outside area where he can run and play.  Harvey would also do well with another dog for companionship.

We rescued Harvey from the pound over 4-months ago and soon discovered he had a medical problem due to regurgitation. After full vet and specialist checks he was diagnosed with a diverticulum – a pouch-like sac in his oesophagus which can trap food particles and cause regurgitation. The specialist vet has given Harvey a very positive prognosis for a long and healthy life so long as he finds an owner who can dedicate the time and care into following a special diet and feeding plan to manage his condition.

Easily excited, Harvey needs to rest and stay calm for approximately 30mins after his meals. At his foster- home, this has been achieved by ensuring rest time in his crate. A diet of natural raw meat in conjunction with certain canned foods, fed in small chunk sized portions has achieved great success. Harvey is blossoming and is healthy and happy.

If you have a huge heart, would love a loyal companion and could provide Harvey with the above life-time requirements, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Shell on 0458461935.
